Stop words are common words which are always used in documents and web pages that search engines consider them as meaningless and not worth indexing. Some search engines don't index these common words in order to save more space or to speed up searches. So in effect, the stop words on your web pages are ignored as if those words weren't on your web pages in the first place.
Below is a short list of words ignored by search engines:
